If regular tasers weren't good enough for you, now companies are working on new systems that will be able to burst blasts of non-lethal electricity to wash over whole crowds of the unwashed masses. Working on the same principle as the Tribes: Vengeance sniper rifle, the new systems use laser of plasma to create a conducting channel through the air, down which the guns shoot long range bursts of electricity, essentially turning the air into a wire. While the current model only has a range of three meters, it can be swept across a crowd to shock multiple targets as long as it receives power. A future version with a range of up to 100 meters is in the pipe.

Who would think you could do all that with a cardboard tube and some camouflage duct tape?
