Vaio Type H Adds FeliCa Support

felica_desktop.jpg imageSony's new Vaio type H desktop adds the fun of "FeliCa" contactless IC to desktop PC. Because the newer handsets from NTT DoCoMo feature FeliCa chips in them as well, all sorts of options open up for interfacing mobile phones with computers. And it's not something lame like "transfer your contact" list — you can use your phone to verify transactions made online, look at your Suica history (Suica is a contactless IC for JR trains), charge your "Edy Card" (a stored-value card), login to Windows, and remove the screen saver lock. The rest of the Vaio type H is what you would expect of a modern Vaio desktop, with Pentium 4 550J and all that jazz.
Even if Sony released the Vaio type H in the USA, it probably won't have this feature. Besides Germany, FeliCa hasn't made it outside of Japan.
