In a strange turn of events Intel has accidentally (?) pre-announced the codenames of a number of their next-gen chips, including the Merom portable chip/chipset which may/may not be dual-core. Why do we care? We don't actually, but in general it now offers us a unified method for communicating Intel's comings and goings. Instead of saying to each other "Hey, did you hear about that new thingy that Intel is coming out with? The one with the chips?" we can say "I hear the Merom is coming soon." Then we can smile knowingly.
