Sony has launched its new VGN-T350, a moderately-specced notebook that is mainly significant for its built-in GPRS/EDGE modem with service through Cingular. The problem is, the service from Cingular is 80 bucks a month—the same price as Verizon's EV-DO Broadband Access service, but not nearly as fast. Plus, when you're ready to upgrade to, say, a UMTS network (like the one being deployed by Cingular as we speak), you'll have to buy a whole new computer. I'll admit, add-in cards are becoming less-and-less necessary, but there's a reason we still use them—swapping connectivity options in and out is one of them.

The VGN-T350 is available now in configurations starting at $2,300.
