911 Deadline Haunts Vonage

VoIP hit some speed bumps today as the FCC put its foot down on companies which don't provide full emergency 911 services. Vonage, the largest non-cable provider of internet phone service may actually be barred from signing up any new subscribers because it didn't meet the deadline (which was yesterday) to get 911 or E911 in all the areas it services around the country. In fact, Vonage said it could only get E911 for 26 percent of its customer base (which is over a million), but did say it could transmit a callback number and location of all its subscribers. Unfortunately, the company has to wait for cooperation from its competitors who own the 911 network, which doesn't seem too fair to me.
