Skype and Intel are working together to offer 10-way free VoIP calling, they've announced. What s in it for Intel? The new Skype service requires Intel s dual core processors. Without a dual core processor powering your PC, 10-way calling will not function, they claim.

Nobody has, as of yet, said whether or not the 10-way calling feature is just that processor intensive, or if this is just shrewd marketing on behalf of both companies. In any event, announcements like these must have telcos getting a little nervous that they'll be losing the lucrative rural party line market. (Although if you can't pick up the phone and listen to your neighbor's conversations, half the fun of a party line is lost.)
