With terrestrial radio on its way out it must be time to develop alternate-powered satellite radios. XM is stepping in to provide a crank-powered satellite radio for situations when power isn't always an option. Not much explanation needed here. Crank that bitch up, listen to some commercial-free radio. But for those of us in non-major cities this still may be a concern because local information and programming is limited to major cities at the moment. XM does have a emergency alert channel that is available for free so a crank-powered satellite radio may be useful for everyone—not just subscribers—when terrestrial radio antennas are MIA.
