    Can-Crushing Green Machine

    The BMW Designworks USA-designed Ecopod E1 Home Recycling Center is a tricked-out trash compactor for greenies: Plastic bottles and aluminum cans go into separate slots and get crushed and dropped into a removable container, making them that much easier to get out of the house and back into the circle of non-biodegradable life. Each "pod" can hold about 50 crushed containers, and there's a compartment on top for glass bottles, newspapers and other recyclable junk. $348 gets you a gleaming new white one. –Matt Schneiderman
