Good news for pro football players, Jackass cast members, and people brave enough to stand in line for an over-hyped next-gen video game console: there's a new device in the works that'll heal those broken bones a lot faster.
Aussie researchers from the Queensland University of Technology are figuring out just how bone cells work and how they heal, getting pointed in the direction of a theoretical device that'll make that YouTube-stunt-gone-wrong injury heal up in half the time. Currently Dr. Gwynne Hannay has worked up a gadget that promotes bone cell growth in the lab, so the next step would be taking it to people. Sounds good to me, just have it ready before I turn 70 so falling down and breaking a hip wont be that big a deal.
