New York Times to Post YouTube-Style Videos From Users

The New York Times revealed plans to post user-generated videos on its website next month, trying to keep up with the YouTube concept that has opened up video distribution to anyone with a camera, a computer and an Internet connection. Even though the Times already employs eight video journalists, suits at the newspaper called them "expensive."

The Times, which launched its own closed video player on its heavily-traveled website in 2005, also announced it would start allowing its videos to be embedded on other sites, the way YouTube does now. Taking that concept to its natural conclusion, can it be too long before the New York Times turns into a user-generated blog?
