Ality PIXXA Wi-Fi Connects to Google Calendar, Looks Cooler than Most Frames

Ality has upgraded their PIXXA digital photo frame, although too late for the Xmas buying season. Their new 800 x 600 Wireless PIXXA with Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, built-in speaker and MP3 playback can instantly show photos sent using their web-based Photo Messenger application, as well as displaying your dates, news and weather. The most interesting thing, apart from its design, is the calendar system. It connects to Google Calendar and can schedule photos to display on specific dates. The interface is quite elegant:

The Wireless PIXXA also connects to their AlityOnline photo service (with up to 50MB of photo storage) and to your Flickr or Picasa accounts. It will debut in the first half of 2008 for $299. [Ality via Bornrich]

  • ...on what platform are all of those applications running? Will we see WIRELESS PIXXA mods in the future?
    ...interestng?no? ...hhhmmmm?
    :0 )

  • That is really pretty cool. As long as there was no monthly fee to access your account I think I would be all over it.

  • Yea, The calendar function would be sweet. I'd love to get this big, hulkin' paper monstrosity off my desk and instead have a sexy photo frame take care of it all. Plus a clock, too? Sweet.

If they can keep these things cheap, I'm betting they'll be the big gift of 2008.

  • WANT!

  • That thing looks awesome.

I can't figure out from their site whether the frame takes photos directly from Flick and Picasa or do you have to import them into AlityOnline first. The graphic on the web page describing the functionality seems to imply so.

I can't also figure out whether it supports RSS (or other) photo feeds. The text on the site kinda implies it, but doesn't say definitely.

Anyway, I'm so keeping my eye on this one. Price is a little steep, but with the calender functionality and the awesome looking design of the frame, it's not too bad.

  • This is the first digital photo frame that I would ever consider buying. All the others try to look too much like frames, as opposed to redefining what a frame is, which this one is attempting to do.

Oh, and the "Wireless Pixxa" link goes to gizmodo.com.

  • neato. My fav part of the site is the "where to buy" link, which brings up a world map with unlinked dots "North America," "Eurpoe," and "Hong Kong." [www.wirelesspixxa.com]
This is definitely a good direction for digital frames, bringing actually useful information into a room without the need for a PC.

Great looking device. My only concern would be that it's tied to particular services. I like Chumby's model better, with an open development platform that can draw in different services. If Chumby 2.0 doesn't look like a hackey-sack I might buy one.
