Put the SmartNav hands-free mouse on top of your monitor, stick a tiny little reflective dot on your forehead, and you're ready to do some hands-free mousing around your PC. Sure, you'll need a foot pedal for the mouse clicking, which presents a problem for those disabled users who might have hoped to use such a device. But wait, there's a version that solves that problem, too. Check out the video to see this contraption in action.
SmartNav is available in three versions, the AT (assistive technology) version which lets you click on an item by dwelling over it, and its software also includes a virtual keyboard. As you can see on the video, this looks like it might be quite tedious for typing. The EG version has a foot switch, and is aimed at wrist strain sufferers, while the standard version is for those who want to increase their productivity and speed. Now if they can just bring the price down from $298.95. [SmartHomeUSA, via UberGizmo]

Maybe in CONJUNCTION with a mouse.
-but now use it in a moving vehicle.
Tap someone on the shoulder and watch them drag a folder across the screen as they instinctively tense the foot down to click and turn there head to see who did it. Wouldn't want a nervous twitch with this. Even better can you see a meeting where people forgot to remove the dot.
dude .. use a wiimote .. cheaper and better tech
NOTICE: Not Compatible With Hindu(R) Third Eye(TM)
@bobbiac:
...hands-free != wireless
if you want wireless hands-on, like the wiimote... might as well buy, you know, a mouse.
Play = Solitare?!?
C'mon, man! Be creative!
Spider. Freecell. There are so many options out there...
Oh, and PS, how well does it work in conjunction with hands on the keyboard?
It might be totally worth it not to have to keep switching one hand between mouse & keys...
@nutbastard: I was thinking the same thing... That had to have been invented in India.
lmao... Imagine trying to play an FPS like Unreal with that thing... now THAT would be funny!
so this thing is blasting your retinas with IR beams right?
what's wrong with wearing a IR LEAD headband instead?
@SomeoneUKno:
your neck would be more tore up than that of a $2 hooker on $3 beer night.
Think I like the Wii version.
The thing in the picture is a Natural Point Track IR V3. I have the V4 and use it for playing flight sims. It's an awsome piece of hardware. The newer version can actually detect six directions of movment.
@skulldriveshaft: headband hair
@nutbastard: huh? [procrastineering.blogspot.com] Weeee Mooooote.
I think i've seen that thing before, but a little cheaper. They make it for flight sim games; it lets you see all around the cockpit with subtle movments of your head. Actually sounds cool, but not sure about wearing the dot....
Finally my hands would be free for.............
eating..what did u think???
I've been using one of these for 3 years. Not always perfect but easy to adjust to. Yes you can use it in conjunction with as many other pointing devices as you wish. Additionally, you don't need foot switches or dwell clicking - simply assign a couple rarely used keys on the keyboard to left and right click.
And Zap42 is right, this one is pretty old. Not even made anymore I don't think.
