SanDisk Sansa View Gets Upgraded to 32GB (Update: Hands-On Gallery)

viewcard.jpgStory: It's the same SanDisk Sansa View, just with another 16GB of storage crammed in for a total of 32GB. Cost? 350 smackers next month. Bore-y: It's the exact same player, it just holds more crap—for a price. [SanDisk] Photography by Curtis Walker

Apple better have something special in store for Macworld to compete with this stuff.

  • Sunovabitch! I JUST got the 16GB version!!! >_<

  • ooh, and you can add microSD memory to it?

What a cute little thing. I'm considering buying a lower capacity Sansa though... No need to spend so much when I have trouble cramming up 2GB.

  • Why can they sell a $350 32 gig player but still no SATA drive for that price?

  • Geezzzz!! I need one. my old Sandisk sansa E280 its looking bad Sizewise.

  • i still want my ogg and flac support, though...

  • @willyolio: just get the rockbox firmware. I tihnk u get ogg and flac support with those.

It isn't the same old thing. the control wheel looks different.

  • @dasugo:
from what i know, rockbox doesn't have firmware for the sansa view series, and secondly, it drains battery life fairly quickly.

  • Yea that's great except for every time you want to add a single song it has to rescan your entire music library before it will let you play it. And on the 2gb model that usually takes about 20 minutes, which is great if you don't want to listen to your music any time today.

  • @Dasugo ... you might be mistaking this with the e Series which IS different. Then again ... maybe it was only me. I really like the price point on this ... and its looks. @drewthat: which Sansa "View" model did you use?

  • Why can they sell a $350 music player but not a $350 sata flash drive? I don't understand SANDISK

  • I picked up my 16 GB view on the first day out -
I never got the jitters or halts that others have reported (of course, my videos are not converted through the provided encoder). The battery life on my unit is amazing - 30+ hours for audio playback (Video never checked). I charge it through an external charger that allows it to playback at the same time - not through the USB interface. And on the refresh - I never had had it take more than a minute to refresh loaded up with video & audio files. The person complaining about the 20 minutes might have a badly encoded song that has been known to cause issues with the e200 series. With the price for the 16GB a few months ago ($200) I have been very happy

  • Get a refurbished e260 for a few pennies.

    Load rockbox on it.

Then it will support the new high cap micro-SDs coming out now.

  • It's not really the exact same player, bigger screen, 30 fps video, better sound quality, more battery life, more memory....you should at least try o do your research before you make a claim like that....of course gizmodo always has to complain about the littlelest things everytime a company brings about something beter than an apple product (View>Nano), even though apple products clearly has flaws that gizmodo tries to ignore.

  • I just realised that there's a chance you could be talking about how there's only a memory upgrade for the 32gb View over the 8-16gb View, not the e200.

I think youre just jealous that Sandisk brought out 32gb before apple did, because for the article on the 32gb touch, you (or gizmodo) didnt even mention anything about the price being overpriced, or how there's only a memory upgrade for the 32gb oer the 8-16gb touch.

  • yet you do for the sansa view. Nice
