The popular cheap-as-chips Zen Stone/Zen Stone Plus are set for an upgrade this year. The V2.0 devices will have an integrated mono speaker—pretty exciting, eh? Check out the gallery for some shots of the new MP3 players.
The Zen Stone of old will now be available in blue, pink, champagne and black colors, as well as in 1GB or 2GB flavors, and besides the novelty speaker, not much has changed. The Zen Stone Plus will also get the mono speaker treatment. The higher end models will be available, as before, with an integrated FM radio, voice recording capability, OLED screen and in either 2GB or 4GB varieties.
The new players will ship with a silicon skin; a sports armband and carry case keychain will be available separately. According to the CEO of Creative "It's hard to believe that such incredibly small players can have a speaker that sounds so good..." Beyond possible, we would have to say. The 1GB model will ship this February in Japan, retailing at 4,980 yen ($48.) Further pricing and shipping dates are not available at present. [Creative]

Oops
is it fat now? the stone i mean. Is it thicker than the normal zenstone
Wow, those are considerably thicker than the originals.
@formicae: Thick mp3 players need loving too, jerk.
I bought my girlfriend a Zen Stone Plus for her birthday and she absolutely loves it. It's tiny, btw, but the pictures of this new model do make it look like the speaker adds a little girth. I'm still trying to figure out why anyone would want to listen to mp3's or FM radio on a tiny mono speaker.

That siad...wait, Creative has models??
So is thicker better than longer or the other way around?
As for speakers, there's a guy who works at the 7-11 who leaves his phone playing non-stop. Sounds like crap, but he likes it. There are lot of situations where earphones are not practical - and a speaker is fine for listening to a lot things on the radio.
You said they would be available in 2gb or 4gb.
but then you say the 1gb will be priced at 48 dollars.
I thought they were only available in 2gb or 4gb.
Do the designers at Creative have any brains in their heads? It is bad enough that mobile phone companies designed phones which play music through the speakers. Now Creative push a LOUD speaker as a positive thing on the Stone.
I have seen unwanted music cause two fights and numberless arguments on trains and the underground in the last year. You put speakers in mp3 players and selfish people will use them wherever they want without any care for the effect on others around them.
Well, when some stressed, tired guy kills some noisy self-centred little punk for refusing to turn his audio pollution off in the train, I hope the unimaginative jerks who designed and marketed this device feel some sense of guilt. Though I doubt the losers are capable of that much empathy.
@tranquility_bass:
MP3 players with built-in speakers are nothing new. I'm sure the Samsung YP-K5 has a much louder set of speakers than the Creative Zen stone.
It's ridiculous to blame the MP3 product designers for inconsiderate commuters.
Mobile phones in Japan receive broadcast television but the commuters there have the basic courtesy not to blast them in their very crowded trains.
