Anthony Park's MyNetflix plug-in for Vista Media Center is an awesome little add-on that lets you do pretty much anything you want with Netflix from within MC.
You can add or subtract movies from your queue, sort through your history and recs, browse top movies by genre, etc., and here's the killer part: Browse and play "Watch Now" streams (especially since they're all-you-can-eat.) It's in public beta, so it might have a few rough spots, but he wants the feedback, so be sure to check it out if you've got a Netflix account and a Vista box. Now if only I could get this on my Wii...
HOT!
Now if they only had this for XP...
By the way, has anyone heard news about the rumored Netflix set-top box?
@unique172: Yes, it's a rumor.
Anyone given this a shot? I'm curious if it allows you to specify the quality of your "watch it now" download. I've found the netflix watch it now service to be pretty worthless over my meager DSL line since it won't let me select a higher quality stream to be watched in non-realtime. So I get either a super over compressed grainy crap which looks something like a video game cutscene circa 1993 or NOTHING.
sweet app... makes me want to upgrade my media center to Vista
looks like kaledioscope
looks like VUDU
looks like APPLE TV
(I just wanted to continue the list of set-top media streamer comparisons)
Will this work with video out? My friend tried to use the Netflix "watch now" feature on his computer, but no matter what he did, if he output it to a television instead of his monitor, some DRM control would kick in and stop playback. I don't think his TV had VGA in though. Maybe that would have worked.
I watch Netflix "watch now" streams on my HDTV off a PC just fine. I use a DVI->HDMI cable and have my HDTV configured as a secondary monitor. I just drag my browser window over to the HD set and go full screen to watch.
@SeattleVlad: Interesting. Maybe it was an HDCP issue. My friends set is SD.
@calebc: I have played with the whole "watch now" thing... it's pretty good... but if you are porting your video off your PC to with composite or S-Video... you are wasting your time.. A standard TV can not hadle the full resolution that comes off a PC through composite or s-vid... so the end result is either really really grainy or fuzzy/blurry...
Once I set things up agin to my HDTV to the built in VGA port... it looks much, much better...
Hmmm. Could this possibly function via meda center extender on the 360?
I just got an email about HDDVD rentals ending on Netflix, about 10 minutes ago. I'd cancel netflix, unless this works..
Anyone know if you can access the Netflix "Watch Now" using a media extender on the 360?
A Comment on the Developer's page says that the plugin will work via the 360's extender, with the minor exception of the Watch Now feature.
Time to update the 360's MCX codecs already!
No support for MCE 2005???
@ Homer23 - It doesn't
I hope some clever guys over at media portal can write a plugin with a similar feature. Oh and for what its worth I watch netflix watch-it-now on two TV's one connected to the computer with VGA and the other using S-video both work fine. (though with the poor resolution browsing the site is a pain ov the s-vid computer/tv setup)
GODDAMNIT NETFLIX! I just got an email saying they're not going to let me rent HD-DVDs anymore! What in the fuck?! Sure, fine, it's not the dominant format now or whatever. I could give two shits. Why in the fuck are they going to STOP renting them out, for christsakes!
I immediately downgraded my 4-at-a-time plan to 2, but shit... I'm REALLY pissed.
Please make one for the PS3!
hey they invented this thing called torrents....
Oh sweet jeebus thank you! I've been waiting for this for awhile.
Granted, their 'Watch Instantly' library still sucks balls, but the ease of use and the quality of the streams are great.
