Amazon's MP3 store got officially Linux-friendly last week, adding support for Debian 4 Etch, Fedora 8, Open SUSE 10.3, and Unbuntu 7.10 Gutsy. So who's still locked out of the store? [Amazon]

I like AmazonMP3. I use to buy my songs from iTunes and I still prefer their encoding over mp3 encoding.
But Amazon makes it easy to buy non-DRM from them and it automatically imports into my iTunes folder. Plus the price is right.
You go amazon. Now just fix your damn store interface. Pretty please.
It's about time...I know a few people who have really been turned off from Amazon's music store just for this reason. Nice to see the SUSE and Unbuntu heads getting some love.
why is downloading a friggin' mp3 a platform-specific operation in the first place?
it's more like "Amazon MP3 Store gets less convoluted, makes jump into 20th century"
that's 20th - on purpose.
The Amazon Store is DRM Free and way better than itunes!
Canadians. They're still locked out.
Unbuntu = Ubuntu... and I guess they should add some support for Gentoo? Since it has quite a userbase (but they are very hardcore users, they'll think of something for sure :P)
@okeo:
yeah but i believe he was talking about actual people.
Why can I live in Ireland (or any other country which is not the US) and buy CDs and DVDs from Amazon US but I can't buy MP3 tracks or buy from Unbox?
Apple might like to answer why iTunes is no better for this sort of thing!
@jaimieh:
i believe it may be a tax/tarrif thing.
Ohh yeah!! Now if they could only find a way to offer a worldwide catalogue instead of the same junky songs made in the USA that I normally tune out, and I would be in heaven.
yahoooo! all they have to do now is offer music from other countries other than the USA and I'm set. I've already used it before, but I'm a greedy netizen, I want stuff from Japan, Spain, France, England, etc etc... to the briny deep with import fees!!
@nutbastard:
Oooh, you used italics, you win!
@mmplisskin: It's better for having a completely free DRM library, but all in all, I find the Amazon store experience decidedly inferior to iTunes'.
do people buy music??
LOL - hooray amazon, show them how it's done!
@BookbagNinja: try emusic...
amazon already worked on linux but you could only get single tracks, you couldn't get a whole album as one purchase. of course most people just buy single tracks. however, certain songs aren't available for individual download and sometimes a whole album is nice.
go amazon! now if only they'd stop being assholes with their stupid software patents they'd be my favorite.
well actually if you keep reading they only support 2 forms of linux installers, rpm and deb. what would be really cool is if they made a generic installer for any kind of linux distro. oh and not be so hung up on windows media player for windows, whats wrong with real player?
Windows 2000? Last I checked it required WMP11 or some such nonsense. As oft stated, the bottom line is a proprietary download software is ludicrous.
Who's still locked out? Hm, how about, every single person not living in the US? :|
But they're still losing to iTunes in sales. Walmart is #1 followed by iTunes.
will there ever be a worldwide mp3 store?
not if the labels still have control.
Who's still locked out? Everyone outside that US, that's who.
