Musicians who lead double lives as gaming geeks will soon have their worlds collide when Korg releases its DS-10 software for the Nintendo DS. Basically, Korg has taken the design concept of their famous MS-10 synthesizer and thrown in a four-part drum module, two analog synth simulators, a 6-track/16-step sequencer and made it usable with the touchscreen. If I had any music ability, lived in Japan and had 4,800 yen ($47) burning a hole in my pocket, I would be all over this sucker when it is released this July. Official specs after the break.
- Two patchable dual-oscillator analog synth simulators: - Four-part drum machine that uses sounds created with the analog synth simulator - Six-track (analog synth x 2, drum machine x 4) /16-step sequencer - Delay, chorus and flanger sound effects available from the mixing board - Three note-entry modes: touch-control screen, keyboard screen, matrix screen - Real-time sound control mode via touch-control screen - Exchange sounds and songs and play multiple units simultaneously through a wireless communications link[Korg DS-10 via Kotaku and DS Fanboy]

What an awsome idea. Could be a real useful and enjoyable tool to have, the possibilities for future applications of this nature are endless.
This is awesome... :P
I need it.
Great! Now ever more effortless music is going to hit the market! It's shit like that which makes the RIAA get so pissed. Shit music = Shit record sales = RIAA suing 13year old!
This looks incredibly fake to me, but that's just my opinion.
It's just like Rez, except without all the trippy graphics.
Attack Decay Sustain Release
hey wow i got a laser sound.
i can't wait to see what you guys come up with. whatever it is it will be better than anything radiohead has done in the past 10 years.
i encourage you that same way my parents encouraged me when they bought me a violin.
and i played it like a guitar until i broke it. within 10 minutes.
I NEED THIS YESTERDAY!
Me too.
Z.
No North American release date? :( I really hope it comes over here. I'd definitely pick it up.
Does anyone read Japanese? Does it say anything about saving your creations? Transferring them to a PC? (via wifi?)
If there's no North American release, this might be my first import ever, and it looks like it'll be well worth it :)
holy crap. that's awesome. basically no reason to get a Korg Kaossilator now. looks like this has the same basic sound... much much more control... and for 1/4 the price. plus the wireless synchronization sounds awesome.
kinda curious about offloading them to a computer though. songs i guess could just be recorded... but what if you make some awesome sequence that you now want to use your real synths on?
A couple of the other girls in my lab like electronica...getting this for my DS and bringing it to work might be fun.
i has tight pants
Do not form plurals with an apostrophe! When did America's schools stop teaching this?! Grrrr.
Sick! I can just imagine doing a live set (I'm a DJ), whipping my DS out of my pocket and amazing the croud by doing a remix on the fly. I want this yesterday.
I eagerly await the jam sessions.
You don't need to live in Japan to use this. The DS is region free. It doesn't look like it uses much, if any Japanese in the program, so I doubt that will be a major barrier, either.
FTW ... if you like this then you'll also love FruityLoops - but be prepared for the disappointment of realising how easy it is to make stuff up for clubs...

@flyboy:
FruityLoops is great for the price. It's easy as hell to use, one of the most intuitive sampling / synth programs I've ever seen.
@brucefdavis:
Crouds are what float in the sky in Japan.
@nutbastard:
Hell yeah..........wait, what?
As a current Electribe MX owner, I find this to be something I may look at once released.
@brucefdavis: I'm glad DJ's don't have to spell anything to make music, or even know how to play an instrument to make music. F-A-C-E
