The Pix-L UMPC concept from Jean Hong is designed primarily for those who feel compelled to hit the internet first thing in the morning and just before they go to sleep. It even features an alarm clock dock and a design that allows you to flip the device over for easy browsing while lying on your stomach. I don't know if the execs at Microsoft will be clamoring for this design anytime soon, but the idea of integrating the mobile PC into our daily lives in this way is intriguing. Additional pic after the break.

I see no input devices...are we to assume it's a touchscreen?
Worst... recycled... idea... ever.
It has 2 USB ports shown on the pictures, so I would guess a mouse/keyboard would work.
They should call it the Origami Bed-Buddy.
Oh well, porn on my alarm clock.
So what reason do I have to get out of bed then?
Hanging out with friends?
that's a cool idea..if this had been a Apple product..3/4s of the apple fan boy nuts would be all over this, proclaiming it does everything but cure cancer..
To be honest, I'm actually really excited by this idea. If it is recycled (not saying it isn't!) I haven't seen it, so this is new to me. If that computer, as a tablet, has any kind of battery life whatsoever I could see this really catching on... what would REALLY be bad-ass is if that dock had, say, a high-capacity laptop HDD in it which could serve as a backup unit. 0_o
Me likey!
Also, if this was an Apple product, there'd be some BOOMs going on right about now... in people's pants... 's all I'm sayin'. :D
I would like to add:
Why do I feel like someone from Apple's gonna see this, paint it white, and its going to be the Second Coming? Great job, concept render person.
Ok... I totally only wanted one comment, of any kind. None of them showed up after several refreshes... until I submitted the third one, where they all blinked into existance. So... yes, I'm an asshole.
So i can wake up to the BSoD now? Friggin' sweet
Please make this. OR has someone already made something like it? I need to know. My obsession with the internet and posting on blogs permeates my life almost completely. This would make it complete.
@Ryanraven: I see an optical drive... perhaps a Linux DVD? I'd be sold on that one.
Can we say finite market?
I dunno if I'd want to try *nux on Microsoft product with a secondary display. They might use something remotely approaching a standardized product, or even have a different controller for the alarm clock than the tablet, but I'd bet otherwise. It's really important that the clock get NTP updates, doncha know?
That said, it would be an interesting product. Other than the case, though, I don't see any component that would resist being built with other tech, if you were devoted enough.
I've been using my Nokia N800 in much this way for the last few weeks. It hasn't become a necessity, but it is getting to be a habit.
my eyes... zee goggles... zey do nothing!
Is nobody tired of this concepts?
Sorry but bed time is when the technology gets put away.
-=No tech in the sleep zone.=-
Looks too big. The images show a miniscule taskbar and what appears to be a full-sized CD-ROM drive. If it was more UMPC-like, I'd find myself quite tempted to buy one.
I already have one of these and use it exactly as described. It's called an iPhone. I used to have a laptop by the bedside, but that gets to be a little much with a fiance in bed beside you. Thanks, iPhone!
Its an interesting design, though I am really wondering whether it needs an optical drive. In fact making this have the feature set of the MacBook Air would be an approach, and then leave your second computer act as server for your media library.
I'd be down with this for sure. There's lots of times where I'll take the laptop to bed, do some reading, get too lazy to put it away, shove it under the covers and wake up several hours later, spooning it...
This has a nice shape, extra utility as a clock - who's alarm could be attached to any number of internet radio sites... the shape of it is really lovely and convenient too.
