A uniform maker in Japan has developed a lightweight polyethylene fiber t-shirt that helps keep people protected from knife attacks. The machine-washable material has a molecular weight similar to the aramid fiber found in body armor, so its probably safe to assume it's not going to tear easily if you're doing dangerous yet knife-free activities such as rock climbing or no-holds-barred wrestling, either. The only downside to this is that even the short-sleeve version, made by Nihon Uni in Osaka, ranges in price from about $200 to over $500, and will only be sold in Japan when it debuts in June. Perfect for Public School Teachers! At least...here in the States since over in Japan they've got the Battle Royalle System in place...
I see they are going with the Hot blonde ad campaign as well. :)
I fail to see how this will keep the blood-thirsty guitarist at bay.
It's still one hell of a lot cheaper than mithril.
Too bad it doesn't cover the important spots. The neck and arms are completely exposed.
Looks a more like Legolas with some man-boobs.
If they're going for the Hot Blonde approach, do over.
Awesome. Tough enough to resist a knife, yet soft enough that you can still see nipple.
@Wizardofpants - BR reference quite applicable. :)
The thing is, you'd want a long sleeve version, as humans will throw their arms up during an attack, to protect the head. This shirt is only good, if at all, against slashing and not pointed attacks. "The company used a slightly thick fiber that is three times stronger as cotton for the T-shirt." That doesn't sound to strong to me. Hopefully the attacker co-operates and only slashes as the blunt force trauma will really do you in.
@vagrant: good point - so you're protected if someone slashes, but not if someone stabs. Though I'm sure many attacks are referred to as "slashings" there are probably a lot more people injured by stabbings.
Psst, Honey. The label goes on the back. and inside.
I live this line: "...Be careful as the mesh fabric can be punctured by a sharp point."
So if the attacker tries a jab or stab with that slice, you are screwed, um stabbed.
Don't slashers go for the throat or face, my pretty?
But will it blend?
@SigmundTheSeaMonster: Well seeing as how more people are attacked by muggers than serial killers by an exorbitant ratio, and most muggers don't want to kill you, just take your money, it seems like the logical person should feel pretty safe in this.
@Barry99705: Note, however, he mentions the "short sleeve version". I am sure they have long sleeve and turtle neck versions as well.
"No no! Don't stab me! Slash only, please!"
Now I am one step closer to fulfilling my goal of defeating a bear in hand-to-hand combat.
@SigmundTheSeaMonster: She is a blonda after all.
@shenanigans61: I literally laughed out loud.
I'm not surprised about the non-protection from stabbing - even the early 1990s military bullet "resistant" vest I was issued (which could stop a 9mm bullet and at least greatly slow a 7.62) was vulnerable to a stabbing attack. I would think that the newer vests with ceramic plates would be pretty good so long as the stabber hit a plate.
Too bad it's only proof against slashings, and not being stabbed in the back. My first thought was "Wow, perfect work attire!"....
molecular weight has nothing to do with it... strength comes from crosslinking.
Japan only? First you deny us the Skyline for so many years and now the slash resistant armor mesh short sleeve tee? I hate you Japan.
My blazer, lined with a fine mesh of nickels and quarters pwns this.
I'll stick with my maille for now...

It's a little cold in the winter though...
This stab proof hoodie looks intrsn [www.bladerunner.tv]
the boxer/briefs version should be appropriately named the "non-bobbitt"
@SchruteBuck: At least their relative rarity means that Skyline stabbings are almost unknown in North America. Oh crap, I just spewed tea all over my desk/monitor. Missed the keyboard (whew).
(R34 FTW!)
I almost panicked... thought the headline read "Splash-Proof" Oh No! End of accidental/random wet T-Shirt contests as we know it!
Kevlar butchers gloves that look to be made of a very similar material have been available for many years. I wore them in the early 80s while repairing meat slicers for a living, ...and I never lost a digit.
This cloth may be a little thinner and lighter weight, it hard to tell from a photo (and hard not to look past the mesh) but the gloves are fairly light and comfortable.
The chic in the pic looks like shes about to deliver a punch. And that shes going to enjoy punching you too.
@axiomatic: I might enjoy it also.
seems someone slashed 1/2 her left boob already...
@Rususeruru: Almost?
hahah one small step closer to the suits worn in "The Incredibles" now all it needs to be is bullet proof, flame and electrical proof, and contain a tracking unit. all while MAINTAINING its critical machine washable capabilities...
A man called Malone once said :-
"They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. That's the Chicago way!"
Don't waste buying this , buy your kid a G26 9x19 instead and make their safety pre-emptive.
But is it stab proof. Lmao
i like her... is she japanese??
I've used gloves like this for whittling. They protect against slashes, not stabs (when teaching little kids this, you take the knife and show them. If the kids think they protect against everything, the little bastards go fuck-all with knife safety).
Considering that a guy went on a slashy-stabby rampage the day before yesterday here in Japan at train station, this ought to sell really well. The 8 people he managed to slice up probably wish they had been wearing one.
