I've heard of two-port USB car chargers, but a four-port charger? That's two more gadgets, baby! Indeed, it makes complete sense to pick one of these up given the fact that many of our favorite gadgets can be charged via USB these days. And you really can't go wrong for only $12. Sweet.
maybe you can
I love it. I'll take twelve. Awesome idea.
sure beats paying out the ass for my zune car charger.
As an ironic twist, someone should now develop a USB cigarette lighter.
Mp3 Player
Cell Phone
I guess a bluetooth headset if you have one
and..?
Seems useful though
specs say 1.5 watts which at 5 volts (even though site says 6 USB spec is 5) means 300mA and not enough to charge my moto q or charge the wife's GPS. basically useless
Great! This should totally facilitate 2 pairs of USB heated slippers for the front passengers and 2 USB powered flower pot speakers for the rear.
@aR-Tard: A USB fan? :)
@aR-Tard: Humping dog, duh.

CORRECT !!!!
DO NOT BUY
I bought it and it does not work. I cannot charge 2 devices at the same time : Qtek PDA + GPS receiver.
@aR-Tard: If you carpool or go on road trips with other people, they might want to charge their stuff too.
Looks pretty neat.
ordered along with the mao ze dong lighter...
hate how this doesn't charge iphones or ipods....atleast the 2 i have don't charge my iphone.
my cig-lighter in my yaris is modded to charge my iphone, so that's cool. kickace, i suggest you look into modding! it isn't that hard :)
My wife's idea was the reverse of this, where you could throw a few dozen laptops in the back seat, plug something into their USB ports, and run your car off their batteries.
why aren't car manufactures putting usb ports in their cars these days?
four of them fully powered! countries are supposed to be going smoke free and generally it's a bad idea to smoke and drive at the same time anyway.
I don't really trust cheap cigarette lighter adapters like this anymore. Not since I plugged in my iPod and a hole burned through the top. Screen died too, but it still worked. Sorta. Made this terrible screeching sound.
You could always swap out the voltage regulator for something that handles more current.
-or could you?
I'd kill for a power strip that only had USB ports on it.
I actually was thinking about plugging in my 4-port hub on a trip back from chicago this past weekend. I needed to have my GPS and cell phone plugged in because both batteries were dying. Not to mention sacrifice listening to my ipod. I am a little bit of a distracted driver... but the FIBs on I-94 made me look like a driving school instructor being followed by a southern cop.
@aR-Tard
PSP
so is this a certified POS?
a couple for sale on e-bay for $6.09, including shipping. The adapters on e-Bay are also FM transmitters for MP3 players, although I bet they don't do a great job at that... And hey, if it's a POS, your only out 6 bucks. I just bought one to try.
@strider_mt2k:
yes you could, it would probably be as simple as swapping the last resistor after the 12v-->5v transformer. And 300ma WILL charge any USB gadget, just not as quickly as 500ma, and maybe it doesn't get as topped off. but it'll get you to 90% most of the time.

it was working fine, you just don't want to admit you had "Zombie" by the Cranberries on there...
I picked one up a few days ago but it hasn't arrived yet. I was concerned that it doesn't have enough juice to charge four things at once too. How hard would it have been to make this thing work?
@nutbastard:
Peeeeeeuw! Did you really have to let it linger?
@nutbastard:
not true, my 5th gen ipod won't even start to charge on some 3rd party usb wall socket adaptor. good thing it was cheap
@nutbastard:
in theory you are correct, but in theory communism works. my Q will only charge at 500mA (the spec for max current on a single port) if it detects that it is connected to a computer. but if it is connected to a purely power source it needs at least 1A before it will switch to "charging mode". I used to have a 700mA cigarette-to-usb adapter and it wouldnt charge my Q let alone keep it from running down the battery.
