Using a $115 Daisy open-source player, and a tin with a London tube map on it, Mchaceortiz made himself an MP3 player with a difference. The six way-retro switches on the tin control the volume, track selection and play and pause, and you can see another shot of it opened up after the jump.

how big is that thing!!
The daisy is really cool and I'd love to play with it - but goddamn, why over 100 dollars for the kit?! You can get MP3 players for like 40 dollars now.
This is ace. I'd tuck it in my coat whilst I hared about London in my trainers. But 'tis a lot of lolly for even a bodge job.
Seems like a surefire way to look like you're holding a bomb or detonator of some sort.
@skittlzncombos: you aren't kidding, maybe they'll have the equivalent of the TSA MacBook Air video... or just arrest and detain you...
I would probably not take that to the underground or even an airplane. Definitely would look suspicious if you happened to open it up.
That things totally awesome. It's got no screen and it's monstrous! Totally trumps this deal [www.woot.com]
@xtremesniper: Oh man, my thoughts exactly. This thing looks terribly sketchy. Those switches are very retro-bomb.
I'd recommend putting a "This is not a bomb" sticker on the back or inside
"Mind the gap" has taken on a new meaning since reading Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere.
@blackwand: That kind of crazy American overreaction would never happen on the London Underground. They just shoot suspicious people over there.
I think it's pretty cool but I have to agree that it's a little steep for a kit. Back in the day kits were cheap because you had to do the work. Is HeathKit still around, heh.
@Way: I was going to say the same thing. Oh, and nice avatar.
well I happen to think it looks great and the best part: it holds your mints!
sure you're welcome to get that out at stockwell tube any day of the week especially if you're from brazil...

Hmmm, How much memory does this thing have?
1kb? 2kb?
