We've been waiting for 3G on T-Mobile longer than we've been waiting for The Police to get back together, and it looks like May will be the month that all this patience finally pays off. TmoNews is pegging the first launch to be in NYC, and spreading to the rest of the country's major cities throughout the rest of 2008 (list after the jump). Of course, it's just a rumor so far, but it does seem to coincide with this HTC Touch Dual Into Mobile found on the FCC, which is supposedly headed toward T-Mobile and features 3G HSDPA. We'll post as we learn more, though we're hopeful that this could finally be it for T-Mobile users to not pull down mobile data at 1996 dial-up speeds. [FCC via IntoMobile - TmoNews]

Is that the best pic you could find? Seriously?
Looks like the phone came straight out of Doom.
No Boston love? Or are we being rolled up into "New England"?
last time i checked, new england wasn't a city, nor very small, are they saying that all of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Mass, Connecticut, and Rhode Island will be 3G? Sounds highly impractical, although I would certainly like it.
@vertigo: That's the best pic the FCC could take. Send all complaints their way.
Seems to be more than a bit speculative. If Tmobile were truly going to be launching 3G in May, wouldn't they have officially announced it by now?
And a full 24 market 3G rollout in less than 2 months, and again, no official word from Tmobile?
This smells awfully, awfully fishy.

@jason: Are they suggesting that the entire list of cities will have 3G by the end of the year?
@kahri: It seems that way, but who knows what will really happen.
I want this damned phone now! haha
if T-Mobile users are having their mobile data at 1996 dial-up speed, what year are AT&T Iphone users stuck in?
YAY! now when is the xperia coming out again. I really cant wait till June now. If i dont get the xperia after reading the review of the HTC touch dual i fell in love with it and thats going to be my next phone if i dont get the xperia x1.
To tell you the truth 400mhz processor of the dual and the 500mhz processor of the xperia im not going to be missing the wing at all.
@chuloallen: Same year i believe, as they both use the shat EDGE tech.
I've been with T-Mobile for years, and call me lazy, but I've both really really wanted fast mobile speeds... but here i am, still with t-mobile.
I'm glad they finally got their butts off the ground (assuming this rumor turns true)
Was the phone struck with Gamma rays?
hacked 3G iPhone with T-Mobile 3G network?... hmmm
So my n73 and n82 aren't crippled anymore?... hmmm
Wow they're rolling out their 3G network in a few select cities? Wow. That puts them right up with Verizon... in 2001.
Seriously though. It's nice to see that AT&T finally can say someone has a crappier 3G network than they do.
I remember when 3G was launched here in the UK... 03/03/03
What a day.
hate to break it to you guys, but the initial launch of umts is going to be voice only. this is straight from a high ranking t-mo employee.
T-mobile is already 3G. Oh, wait, no, we're in Europe. Sorry.
Oh, damn. I've lost my ability to post again. Well, that was short-lived.
Are we that uncool? Just because we home AT&T, doesn't mean the 7th most populated city in the nation should be left out!

I know, I live in San Antonio and don't understand why T-Mobile would pass up setting up this sooner. San Antonio is growing fast and T-Mobile is going to run into problems trying to catch up to growing population. I am going to be in Chicago in the summer so I guess I could just check it out up there, unless my will slips and I end up going to at&t or getting SERO.
roll out of 3g in some markets is HEAVILY dependent on the US Government's ability to get off the spectrum that was purchased my T-Mob. some areas have been vacated faster than others and as soon as that happens they have to get the infrastructure ready integrated optimized and then turned on for consumption. Be patient it's coming :)
we have had 3G in the Philippines for a while now and its a third world archipelago.
Phoenix is last? :(
The Police did get back together and go on tour this year.
They still hate each other.
i iphone will never work with tmobiles 3g network at&t and tmobile has 2 different 3g spectrums, and it is rolling out but that htc neon is not getting launched with tmobile if you read the info from fcc it clearly states that, tmobile has a different 3g spectrum and it aint 1900, or 850 so thats bs
