Maximum PC has reviewed AMD's tri-core 2.4GHz Phenom X3 8750 CPU. It performs like you'd expect—in between quad and dual cores. Fine, but it's $195. You can pick up AMD's top quad core, the X4 9850 for only $235, or Intel's Q6600 (which mercilessly beat down the X4 9850 in benchmarks) for $224 now, or hell, $200 in a few weeks. So just get a quad core. Maximum PC also hints that a Core 2 Duo might keep pace with the tri-cores, but they're keeping that under wraps for now, bastards. [Maximum PC]

ouch, I would think AMD would be trying to push these chips out the door.
I know AMD is having financial problems, but selling chips at a deflated price is better than not selling any chips at all...
Much like AMDs "4x4" platform, these tri-core chips seem doomed from the start.
Stop-gap products released solely for press exposure FTL.
I had assumed it would be sub-100 dollars...
@regnez:
Well, these are really just quad-core chips can couldn't make the cut.
from what i've read, q6600's give great OC performance, and amd chips don't tend to be as friendly in such a manner?
By this logic if my car gets a flat I can trade it in to the dealership for 80% the original price and just call it a tricycle...
There are only two words for this processor family:
EPIC FAIL.
Super.
More AMD stuff to avoid.
I wonder if AMD will ever bounce back to lead Intel? It doesn't look so well - Intel seems to be a generation ahead of them.
Yeah, the tri-core is something that doesn't sound interesting.
But, this is AMD just testing the waters of their nextgen CPUS.
AMD plans on releasing a 6core and a 12core CPU in the future, which probably is most likely based on this cpu.
For whatever reason, AMD has been on a losing streak ever since they aquired ATi. The worst part is, they can't even catch up because nVidia already has their next gen cards out of prototyping and ready for production, and all they have to do is sit on them for now. It sucks! I used to love AMD! I dunno what they need, but they need a shakeup, FAST.
@redmodel: So how many will they have to put in there to get 12 or so good running cores, like 30?
Like I said, super.
@redmodel: So by 6 and 12, you really mean 4.5 and 9 because 1 core always fails for every 4 that they claim to put in.

Its a shame how far AMD has fallen.
Their Phenom CPU's have no balls and cant overclock worth a shit.
Their ATI cards dont last more than a month at the number one spot.
I've never used AMD processors before. Won't be for awhile, I am absolutely loving my E8400.
The Virtual Adept trinary computer is finally here!
I've always been a fanboy of AMD - until they started doing dumb shit like this. WTF are they thinking?
Yes! I don't know why, but I love the Q6600. Also, I hate AMD processors. Just one of those fanboy things, I guess. I'm definitely getting a Q6600 for my new computer though; god bless science fair awards xD
But, yeah. I don't really have a reason to dislike AMD, but damn, it really looks like they do suck, after all.
wait, the Q9300 is the same price? Okay, I'm confused all over again.
