Purple Tentacle, Iron Man, the Spaghetti Monster, a super cool MacBook Air, Master Chief, Ren & Stimpy, and even a Blue Screen of Death made entirely of folders? Oh yes. We got 14 entries for the desktop clutter art contest that started with Spider-Pig and Homer Simpson, and we got the winner right after the jump!

Honorary mentions for the Spaghetti Monster—we like—and the conceptual Windows Blue Screen of Death. Now the top winners:
3rd Place: Goes to Hapax's Iron Man. Why? Because it's nice and we are all Tony Stark fanboys and we like cocktails.

2nd Place: A great rendition of the MacBook Air by Daniel Lagin.

1st Place: For Damien Nozay and his great Purple Tentacle on Linux. Your no-prize will be in the mail soon. In the meantime, you get all the glory. And you can take over the world.

We had a hard time deciding, so thanks to everyone for sending us the good stuff.

Love the Ren & Stimpy. It's just the right amount of file folders to look good.
Correction:
That would be Mister Chief and not the Master Chief (seriously, there is a difference).
wow. this is ocd at whole new level. macbook air is sweet.
FYI, 1st and 2nd place are both showing Purple Tentacle.
Also, Awesome art!
NVM, It's changed. :/
Time to write a program that generates folder clutter art given an image.
Hah! "Your no-prize will be in the mail", classic.
Unbelievable.
Ver'Nice indeed.
I wonder if Frankie's the one who submitted the Mister Chief.
Well, I tried showing John K. the Ren & Stimpy one in his blog and he even deleted my post, guess he doesn't like people messing with his characters...
Nice job Damien.
I like the MacBook. Uhh, I like the MacBook art.
thats pretty cool...
how the hell do they do that?
@VakeroRokero: He may not own the rights anymore, or he could just have a really bad taste in his mouth about the whole thing. I think he's very used to people fucking with his characters.
The moment purple tentacle entered the competition, it was over.
Ok the dramatic chipmonk is totally cooler than my pink Iron Man.
It's the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
@gadgetchic:
The most likely way is to set a desktop picture of the image you'd like to create then drag folders of the appropriate color around to fill in the spaces. It's not tough, but it is tedious and takes a lot of tenacity.
@daath:
Truth.
LOVE the "Day of the Tentacle" art! :D
The only thing I find more annoying than gizmodo camera review spam is morons with way too much time on their hands making fucking pictures from icons on their desktop.
The linux guy probably codec a script to do the work :P
I love them all, this was a cool contest, but maybe there should have been a prize of a donation to CCleaner in their name...crappy desktops need crap cleaner. =P
im sorry but ren and stimpy deserve to be up there
