Scarlet, that doe-eyed brunette that we all "thought" was the protagonist of a new TV series is actually nothing more than the face of a viral campaign for a new line of TVs from LG. The LCD HD TVs, which range from 32 to 52 inches, have a 50,000:1 contrast ratio, super-fast response time of 4 milliseconds, HDMI 1.3, and 1080p resolution—apart from the smallest model. See what it looks like below.
"I wanna put her in every home on the planet," says one of the characters in the "trailer." Yeah yeah yeah, now go back to peeling potatoes or whatever you do when you're not on set. Prices in Korea range from around $1,500 to $5,300, but there's no word on US prices—or, for that matter, when they're coming over here. [Engadget HD and Associated Press and Scarlet]

You're kidding, right?.
LG went to all that trouble just to promote their new line of TV's?. They might as well have just had a man dressed up as a penis walked around LA yelling NEWWW TEE VEEEE. NEWWW TEE VEEE.
I for one am glad this wasn't really a new show. I thought the trailers looked crapola.
Well that gives me a serious case of blue balls...
So there's a TV in here somewhere?
I was liking it better when I thought Scarlet was a hot woman.
Hey LG, how's about you get herpes and die.
@Kaiser-Machead: Scratch that. Malaria.
I knew it! I just knew it!
@GeekyNerdGuy: @Kaiser-Machead: Don't be encouraging Hollywood. Or the next thing you know, someone will end up actually producing it in order to satisfy the unmet Scarlet demand. And it'll end up being a third-rate copy of Alias and Nikita. And will have nothing to commend it but hot bodies. And umm, what were we talking about again?
I thought the article had to be a joke. Or maybe that the new TV show was coincidentally named the same as a new line of TVs. But ironically (or intentionally) there happened to be one of the Scarlet ad banners on this page, so I had to go see for myself. WOW! I cannot believe they really went that far. I'm not sure if that's better or worse than Apple shutting down their store to get attention for their new lineup.
I've got to give a little credit though...the marketing teams are getting mroe creative!
LG don't know nothin' about birthin' no babies!
@Mandatory_Field: Still looking for the downside there... even more if one of the cable guys pick it up and run with the unrated version
I was looking forward to watching all 6 of the shows that were going to air before it got canceled.
That girl is H O T. Who is she? I want to Gooogle her.
I feared it was some kind of ad from the beginning; thought it was for a new women's hair care/make up line.
That's right "feared," I thought this could have been good campy fun...like She Spies
The image should be GI Joe, not some latina hooker. Boo gizmodo!
@reddingofish: "I want to google her"
That sound dirty to anyone else?
"I wanna put her in every home on the planet," If they're talking about the lady in the second picture, I'm all for it.
The actress is Natassia Malthe.
I thought it was fairly obvious something was amiss when they said "the hit new tv series" but didn't mention a network. I poked around for a good while trying to figure out what the deal was a couple weeks ago.
Personally I think its a pretty clever campaign, I wish more companies were as creative.
NBC aired the trailor. Didn't notice other networks airing it. It would have been more convincing if it was only one network and the commercial aired more often.
Gizmodo: If it is "dynamic contrast" please call it that. Engadget describes this TV as 50,000:1 DYNAMIC CONTRAST. You've just called it 50,000:1 contrast.
There is a big difference. You even pointed out the BS yesterday! Rember this article:
[gizmodo.com]
Here, I'll quote:
You all should be asking, "What's wrong with the model in the 2nd photo? Is she constipated or something??"
@EQC: True!
Also, "basically meaningless" means it has meaning. Otherwise, it would simply be "meaningless"
There was an ad campaign for this TV that looked like a TV show? When did this happen?
Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice... ain't gonna happen. Keep your stinking TV.
I bet they were pissed when red announced there new camera named "Scarlet".
I can't wait until the pilot is aired, it looks like such a great show. What network is this going to be on? I still can't find that.
I don't get it, I checked out the trailer thinking it a TV show with no interest in buying a TV. Now that I know it's an advert I still have no interest in buying a TV.
Creative yes, works as an advert no.
Someone who actually saw the trailer... was looking forward to the series? They went out of their way to make it look ridiculous/just plain bad and succeeded so that it would stick in peoples minds. Very well done ad campaign.
On the Up side... They will be sold in every HOME DEPOT since they also sell other LG stuff...
:>)
Man wtf, I was getting excited for that series... Fuck them
Gizmodo Public Service Announcement:
As previously mentioned, the Scarlet chick is, in fact, actress/model Natassia Malthe; however, it was not mentioned that she played the kiss-of-death villain in Elektra, and more importantly it was left out that you get to see her perfect, taut, ripe, bare ass in the beginning of 40 Days and 40 Nights. Natassia is eurasian, and if you like her then you'll also enjoy this Josh Hartnett film since it co-stars another eurasian beauty, Shannyn Sossamon.
