Microsoft's not only delaying Windows XP SP3 temporarily, but they're also pulling off Windows Vista SP1—which has already been pushed out to automatic software update—because of potential incompatibilities. Most of us don't need to worry about it since this is just an issue with MS's SQL Servers that affect Microsoft Dynamics Retail management systems. Unless you're running a SQL database at home to track the chore distribution for your family, you can go ahead and manually fetch the update and install it yourself. [PCWorld]

"Unless you're running a SQL database at home to track the chore distribution for your family."
Huh? What's wrong with that?
MSSQL is the worst Database in the universe.
Or at least on this spiral arm of the galaxy.
Nah. Regulan Ready DB 4.5 is way worse. Damn methane breathers.
@Castle1914: Oh come on. It's not that bad. Show me an DBMS that's easier to manage than SQL Server.
@Castle1914: Try friggen xBase, way, way, wayyyyyyyy worse!
I use sql server at home as a developer..
@Castle1914: Ha Ha. So true. Have you seen the Database protcols they use over in the Scutum-Crux Arm? Bunch of Centaurus 13B fanboys!
I'm running sql 2005 express and it is running fine along side sp1.
@Castle1914: for small web apps, sql server 2005 has worked great me as a developer.
Anyone have wifi problems with it?
@Castle1914:
SQL Server is a quality product. But use the tool that best fits your needs - taking into account, price, performance, features, ease of use, etc.
To say MSSQL is the worst "at least on this spiral arm of the galaxy" is completely false.
Are you a mysql user?
@Rabid Penguin: Microsoft + Databases == Trouble.
@shamoononon: Not to say they are the worst, but come on... why would you want to run it at home (not exactly light weight)? Is there a single large cooperation that actually uses it? Sorry, Oracle fan.
@shamoononon:
Actually most large companies use a combination of different databases. And there are large companies that use sql server. SQL Server is a quality product, so is Oracle. You just have to choose the one (or many) that fit your needs. SQL Server is very widely used in business.
!(Microsoft + Database == Trouble) == True
lol
@shamoononon: you just replied to yourself.
Isn't that against the rules or something?
@Rabid Penguin: Okay, I guess I haven't had the most well rounded experience since most of the places I have been used Linux or Unix but I still don't see the need to use it at home :)~ . Anyhow, I shall respect everyones choice.
@shamoononon:
If I had to choose a database for home use it would be mssql or mysql. But I'm more familiar with mssql so I stick with that :c)
I don't know if the fault belongs to SP1, the latest Nvidia drivers, Firefox, something else, or some combination of things, but ever since I reinstalled Windows Vista and updated everything, I have been seeing a lot of video updating failures. Sometimes, menus open as solid black rectangles for maybe a couple seconds before they fill in and sometimes Web content remains in place after I close a tab.
Hey, but at least file copying is a bit faster now.
Yeah, so I'm thinking about going back to Windows XP again.
My ass this is an SQL problem. SP1 broke quite a bit of stuff. For example, Adobe Audition just flat refuses to run on SP1. I also ran into quite a few other problems that forced an XP reinstall.
tried visduh [business version] ONLY because i got it for free. had it on my main pc for about 3 months. had to spend hours dealing with BSODs and random reboots that'd occur well uh randomly. help from MS? not even once... went back (actually forward) to XP. sometimes the devil you know is better...
next stop: ubuntu...
Beware odd number service packs from M$.
Captain interesting.
NSFF
Not suitable for Friday.
@shamoononon: Access is the best database out!
If you're using MSSQL, you're too busy repairing databases and dismissing blob errors to install some crazy service pack.
@92BuickLeSabre: That's geekilly funny.
