The first "official" photos and specs for the HTC Diamond have been leaked, complete with a 2.8-inch 640 x 480 pixel screen (twice the lines of the iPhone in smaller surface,) Windows Mobile 6.1 and 3G connectivity. Could this be the most important product of the year HTC said it would reveal in London on Tuesday? The fabled iPhone Killer? Addy will be liveblogging the event, so we will discover it then. It certainly seems like a good cellphone, judging from the specs.
• large 2.8 inch VGA display (640x480 pixel resolution)
• Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
• Quadband GSM/GPRS/Edge and UMTS/HSDPA
• Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0
• 3.2megapixel camera with autofocus
• extra VGA camera in the front for video telephony
• QWERTY keyboard
• Qualcomm 528 Mhz CPU
• 4 GB of internal memory plus a MicroSD slot
• FM Radio
• an accelerometer sensor (like the iPhone's)

Very nice looking. If it still has the full qwerty keyboard somewhere then it could be the AK we've been waiting for.
Looks nice but it has the Home & Back keys from Windows Mobile Standard not Pro, so is this the correct device those specs match or does Pro now support those buttons?
@sparx104
there's no way a windows mobile standard phone would ever be concidered an iphone killer. it has to have a touch screen.
on the subject of iphone killing, keep in mind that this will have to compete with the next gen iphone.
also, wait... no built in gps!??
wow... 4gb of internal memory... my mogul is jealous
Will Verizon get this phone? If so I am all in. Chips, cash and car title!
They better have graphics acceleration enabled or they will have another Tilt/Kaiser fiasco. Either way, they've already lost me as a customer.
And for all you iPhone fanboys, stop nitpicking about the little things that everyone might not need. Built in GPS is not a necessity if you drive your car, a stand alone dash unit suits me fine. I don't see myself driving on I95 reaching for my phone trying to navigate and drive at the same time.
Slick. If this is for Verizon, I'm definitely getting it. I hate my chunky Chocolate.
900 Mah battery?! Isn't that too low for a WinMo with all these specs?
Damn it, I want definite driver checks and performance tests before I even consider touching it. . . .
Oh, and pay attention to HTC's word play, if this isn't as advertised then bam!! a lawsuit because then it would be the Tilt fiasco all over again. . .
Sounds interesting... will keep an eye on it.
But nothing will really kill iPhone... you know, it's largely sustained by pure fanboy worshiping.
If it actually is better than iPhone, Apple fanboys will just say stuff like "just you wait 'till iPhone 2" or something like that...
Blah still with the 2.8 screen size.
Me likie the Nokia N96.
Sorry screen and storage size is WAY to small. What are you going to add on it? 10 pictures to show on that tiny screen? No can do.
Sound like the perfect phone for all of you iPhone haters. Go for it HTC Fanboys.
@pure241: Home and back key buttons, but no soft key buttons. Must have a touchscreen for those then?
Judging by previously leaked screenshots, there may be another version similar to this coming out with GPS. I certainly can't wait to see what all gets announced next week!
Im not a gigantic fan of th eiphone or windows mobile devices, but I dont think winmo has what it takes to me inside anything labeled an iphone killer. Android maybe, but not winmo.
Giz, nowhere does it state that this device has a QWERTY keyboard. And notice the back button on the front of the phone. This puppy's running Windows Mobile Standard, not Pro.
The specs are solid for a low-end to mid-range smartphone, but this better not be the 'most important product' HTC is hyping. It's cute enough for what it is, but 4gb storage? Only a 3.2 megapixel shooter? No GPS? It's nice, but this doesn't look set to compete with the rumored features of the second-gen iPhone, the 8gb N95 (let alone the N96), or the Xperia, which is itself an HTC device! This won't even be the best HTC device released this year. Pass.
PS designers, you can stop that prism crap. It looks ridiculous on the Nokia candybar, it's dumb on the Xperia, and it looks stupid here. Let's forget this phase, please.
Yeah, the Diamond doesn't have the qwuerty, the Raphael does.
Both coming to Sprint WOO WOO!!!
Windows Mobile? iPhone killer?
Laughable.
@YankeeFan: Well, I guess for Sprint devices, they're not bad. I was actually thinking to myself this was looking like this year's version of the Centro-- a somewhat gimped smartphone-lite that's real heavy on the cuteness. That's not a knock-- I dig the Centro, wish I could use it on the side but the buttons are WAY TOO SMALL.
how much?
I like it. I've been waiting for something 'cute' rumor-esque with a slide out keyboard but if this is meant to replace the mogul, a pda, it probably isn't what I'm looking for.
I don't know much about phones, but 3.2 sounds like a mighty fine camera on a phone.
WinMo is in no way going to be an iPhone killer. If they had come up with an OS theyd have a better chance of going with the iphone killer route. Aside from that, I would love this on Verizon since the iPhone isnt coming to any good carriers anytime soon.
That is utterly sexy.
COME TO AMERICA!
screw this, I'm so in for the 3G iPhone! I just hope that 199$/2yr contract rumor proves true (yeah yeah, I heard the dude who started that is a big d-bag, but hey, we can all dream right?)
A VGA display with a QWERTY keyboard?
Perfect thus far.
If it is fluid and graceful and relatively bug-free, it will be an improvement on the iPhone (that i have and like very much, btw! :O))
Can't wait for this.
I also have the Tilt, which is really good in theory, but kind of glitched and overwrought in application.
HTC has some good stuff happening.
They follow and lead in the same stream.
lol at the retards with a crappy iphone who think Windows Mobile on an HTC phone is SO bad.. I laugh at you, you silly stupid snobs. rofl keep "jail breaking" your phone so you can do the simplest of task..
Now this phone + Android = Orgasm.
who is the carrier?!
@Krutch: I don't think anyone here blew a load over the iPhone, so you can cut out the fucking trolling. As a simple business fact, user interface sells a lot of phones. The iPhone's is better than the WinMo interface right now. WinMo has selling points too. Stop trying to rag a fight where there isn't one.
Ass.
i like how everyone asks if its verizon or sprint. the third line specifically states GSM. how dare you read this website and not know the difference. jebus!
seriously tho.... hot.
I own an Iphone, love it and yes its jailbroken. But I've had every type of "PocketPC" from casio's to ipaqs to toshiba to HP VGA qvga htc qtek... And guess what they all had in common a retarded OS that MS doesn't give a f*ck about!
Within not even two years apple has completetly taken over, MS had more than a decade..... They suck have you tried even to browse gizmodo on one?
Posted from my iPhone....
@@lithivm: Try Skyfire?
So, ummm...why is the back of it all pointy and stupid?
@OG512: mmm, welcome to the world of location based services. You know, there are people in this world who get around by means of transportation other than cars. And if you are anywhere you don't know your way around properly (like, gasp, walking) it is _very_ handy to have GPS onboard.
Nice geometrically retarded backplate. It'll come in handy if I want to reduce the radar cross section of my cell phone.
The iPhone's native resolution is 480x320, so it's twice the pixels but not twice the lines.
Looks like Zune 80 to me.
I was fiddling around with a Sprint HTC Touch the other day and aside from the very unresponsive touch screen the thing seemed pretty damn cool!
THIS thing, wow.
After my experience with the Touch I can't help but be curious.
-and the back of that thing looks like it's very radar absorbent too!
@Kaiser-Machead: beat me to it I just noticed, and better worded too.
@camelontherun: if you did not know, Verizon's new 4G network will be GSM based as well as AT&T's. I'll post you the article from Engadget if you need it.
It has great specs in every way, except with a 900mah battery it will be a brick 15 minutes after you fire up wifi, gps and full screen brightness.
Darn shame that they crippled it with that battery size after getting so many things right.
With a 900mah battery this thing will be a brick after 15 minutes worth of wifi, gps and full screen brightness.
It's a massive shame that they crippled it by giving it a ludicrously low battery capacity, that alone may be bad enough for me to stay away.
Though frankly I'm more interested in its sister model, the one with the slide out keyboard, anyway. But that probably still has the micro battery...
@cr0ft: sounds like a job for that new Sony hybrid battery!
I just don't think anyone will put out a Windows Mobile phone (at least until Microsoft releases some newer versions) and call it an iPhone killer. It's just a recipe for disaster.
@OG512: well great. lets hope we get this thing in 2 years then. when verizons lte lights up.
but for now, ITS UMTS. stupid head.
The Diamond does NOT have a QWERTY keyboard. The Raphael does.
@TurboFool: That's been mentioned quiet a few times in the comments.
Why are they doing these mini and micro cards? I like the fact that my camera and phone use the same card. Also needs a bigger screen.
Comment on HTC Diamond Has Ultra-High Density Display To all those iFonnies, No it doesn't have GPS, it has eGPS!
