The class action lawsuit brought against Apple for PowerBook and iBook power bricks with the potential to spark has been settled. If the final approval for the settlement goes through, Apple will pay $25 to $79 to customers who "bought an adapter made by Apple or another company to replace a failed one." I should be compensated for reading this miserably formatted article.
Sweet. I've had sparks fly out of at least 3 different powerbook power bricks, regardless of how little they were moved or how well they were treated.
Shocking!
No, flamey.
Yeh, like I still have my receipt. The only ones getting anything are the lawyers...and they don't even need it. What a waste of a life.
Where do I sign up? I have a iBook that I've had to replace the power adapter 3 times now.
@nyaz: Most likely, these things are settled using mail outs and/or a link on the Apple home page. Just check apple.com once in a while.
It's a damn shame that to get anything out of Apple you have to take the bastards to court.
I had a defective battery from Apple, got it exchanged, the *second* battery failed, got it exchanged. The *third* battery failed, and Apple helpfully informed me that the last battery only had a 90 day warranty since it was a recall, and I could either buy a new battery or GFY+DIAF.
The power supply failed too, and the fan.
Face it, OS X is a great OS but Apple's quality is slightly worse than Sony and Dell. They're just better at managing it (and capitalizing on it..."Buy AppleCare! Is Awesome! Great Success!").
I wonder what the lawsuit cost them, as opposed to just paying out in the first place after performing their own tests to decide if the parts were defective?
Apple, it just works.
Until it kills you.
so how many hundred dollars is the payout considering the huge market share?
@mullingitover: That's why I run 10.4.10 on my Panasonic laptop- the hardware may be overpriced, but they really have something there with the software.
That happened to my MagSafe charge for the MB. I'm on my second one now, probably on the verge for a 3rd.
