Weightlifter Shoots Himself Using a Dumbbell—No, Really

This is not a gunshot wound you'd brag about to 50Cent. In fact, this sort of injury isn't really something you'd want to tell anybody about—you do have a reputation to maintain after all.

Modesto, CA emergency services responded to a shooting incident Wednesday night, being summoned to the home of an unnamed, 56-year-old Modesto resident. He had reportedly been lifting weights in his apartment and accidentally dropped a dumbell which landed on a .22-cal bullet that had been lying on the floor (because who doesn't have loose ammunition strewn about their home).

The weight apparently hit the rim of the casing and deformed it just so—setting off the charge and embedding a slug in said weightlifter's shoulder. He was admitted to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"I've never heard of such a thing, but some have," Officer Chris Adams said. Police report finding the casing but no weapon at the scene. [LA Times - Image: mirana / Shutterstock]
