Last week, news leaked that the Xbox 360 would be adding support of mass storage devices for items like profiles and saved games. Today, Microsoft confirmed the update will arrive on April 6th.
The 360 will support USB sticks (1GB and over) and large USB drives alike, but 360-usable partitions will be limited to 16GB. So if you have a 1TB drive, that's all fine and dandy. But don't expect to fill the whole thing with DLC.
However, the system will support multiple 16GB drives—up to two at once, actually—meaning you can actually save a maximum of 32GB to connected external devices.
Microsoft also announced plans to release a Sandisk-branded USB stick that will require no special formatting to work with the system. But given that you'll be able to format any generic drive you like right through the 360, we're not sure an official product will be especially exciting. [Major Nelson]
