Toshiba's Latest Blu-ray Playing Laptops Come With Core i3, i5 or i7 Chip

Toshiba's gone crazy with Intel's latest Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, adding them to the Blu-ray playin' Satellite A660, C650, L650 and L670. Sadly there's no 13-inch options with the new chips, a decision Apple made with the MacBook Pros.

Apple explained the lack of Core i3 processors in the latest 13-inch MacBook Pro as related to getting the "optimal combination for performance battery life and mobile design," so perhaps Toshiba had similar issues there as well.

Nonetheless, the Satellite A660 looks set to be an affordable Blu-ray playing model with a 16-inch TruBrite HD LED backlit screen, at 1366 x 768 resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio. Your choice of Core i3, i5 and i7 chips is included, and up to 8GB of RAM and a 620GB HDD. Resolution+, their upscaling technology that uses the cell processor, is also packed inside.

The C650 has up to 4GB of RAM, 500GB of storage and a 15.6-inch TruBrite display. Cheaper options that were also announced by Toshiba are the L650 and L670, which are 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch models, both with Resolution+ and up to 500GB of storage. i5 and i7 chips are on offer for both machines.

All laptops will be on sale May/June in Europe, with US pricing and availability expected at some point.
