Whatever could Google want with an airline IT company? Well, considering that company, ITA, supplies travel information to websites such as Kayak.com, CheapTickets, Bing Travel and Orbitz, quite a lot, actually.
Word on the street around Silicon Valley is that ITA is looking for $1 billion from the sale, which sounds like a lot but when you consider the potential of getting in on the act of supplying travel information to fliers—particularly in these uncertain, volcanic ash-fueled times!—but it'd be crazy for Google not to jump into it. Especially when Microsoft is doing so well out of Bing Travel, and there's a wealth of potential for Google to incorporate such travel information into its Android OS. [Reuters via TechRadar]
