The suicide cluster at Foxconn has attracted the attention of a top Chinese official this weekend. Wang Yang, top Communist Party official of Guangdong, has called for improved conditions in the region. Previously, as part of an overall PR/HR initiative, Foxconn said it would increase workers' wages by 20%.

The government acknowledgment that something is amiss at Foxconn is just the latest bit of disheartening news out of China on this issue. Nintendo and other major electronics manufacturers whose gadgets are made at Foxconn factories also weighed in this week with investigations of their own.

Lastly, there was apparently a fire there early this morning. No additional word on that just yet. [WSJ]
