Play Top Trumps With Valuable Artworks Using the Tate Museum's iPhone App

You remember the Top Trumps games right, where you have to outdo your opponent with a stronger/faster/leaner/meaner dinosaur/footballer/celebrity/poo? The Tate museum of London has created a decidedly more high-brow version, in the form of a free iPhone app.

It's a fun and interactive way to make visiting the Tate museum more entertaining, with various games offered—so it's not just competitive trumps with your mates.

When using the Battle mode you've got to search for the most dangerous looking artwork you can find, which could take on something softer, like say...the Mona Lisa. (Which of course hangs in the Louvre in Paris, fact-fiends).

Mood mode, you have to match up themes given to you by the app (such as 'absurd,' 'exhilarating' and so on) with suitable artworks. You can even curate your own personal gallery, with the Collector mode.

It'd be better if you didn't have to visit the Tate to get the full flavor of the app, but it's a really sweet attempt by a museum to insert itself into the 21st century, apps and all. [iTunes via Recombu]
