Porn Video Sneaks Into Nokia N8 Chinese Announcement Broadcast—UPDATED

Make this a lesson in how to drum up some much-needed interest in a should-be-obsolete phone: ensure your Chinese live-stream announcement gets hacked with a snippet of porn. Works a charm! UPDATED

On Wednesday, China introduced China to the N8 with a live-streaming video on several Chinese websites. So far, par the course. However, they probably weren't expecting one of the streams, on Sina.com (supposedly one of the largest websites in the world; Wikipedia says that in April 2003 the "infotainment" website was receiving 3bn page views daily), to break out into a porno.

By the sounds of it, Nokia hurriedly pulled the stream, and stated that it was not behind the mistake, and will attempt to find out who did it, yada yada yada.

Really, this is probably the best thing that could've happened for the N8. Finally people are talking about it! [Sina via iFeng via MICGadget]

UPDATE: Reader Corwin alerted us to this statement by Nokia on their Chinese Conversations blog, which says that no porn was broadcast at all during the live-stream announcement, and that instead the rumor has spread like wildfire through China, sparked by one blogger over there. Very mysterious. The Google Translation of the blog post leaves much to be desired, but you can try reading it here. Taking this off the homepage to avoid confusion.
