Where Is the Support for Object Scanning and Controllers In Xbox 360 Kinect?

The awesome Kinect object scanning is missing from all incoming titles, as well as of any hardware controller support. But fear not, because Kinect's big honcho Kudo Tsunoda has some answers about this and more.

On object scanning, which will allow you to put real world objects into games, Tsunoda says that it is coming:

We saw a little bit of that at E3 last year, but it's not stuff that we have in any of the launch games right now, and I think we're going to see a lot more games start using that as well as we go forward.

He also responded to some of the criticism, like the lack of buttons or the limited ability of the system to recognize hand gestures or small hands. Answering to the lack of buttons, Tsunoda said that they are not avoiding controllers. While the first generation of Kinect games won't have controller support, future games may combine "both controllers and Kinect." You know, like holding a rifle in a First Person Shooter and actually pulling a trigger instead of just moving your finger and mumbling "pew pew!"

Tsunoda also pointed out that, as the technology evolves, it will get better with little hands and hand gestures: "You're going to get more granular on what we can do. The closer you get to the sensor, you can actually get a pretty good reading on a hand motion. Even with my hands you can get a good read far away." [Kinect via Joystiq]
