That Kraft cheese slice you might chomp for lunch today? It came from a mammoth subterranean dairy bunker the company uses as dirt cheap refrigeration and storage, Wired reports. Inside a 70 year old mine that's still rocked by explosions.
The cheesy compound is filled to the ceiling with 680-pound drums of sandwich wonderfulness, kept at a chilly 36 degrees Fahrenheit through a combination of being one hundred feet below ground, and a powerful liquid cooling system. The adjacent area is still an active limestone mine, but luckily, thick walls keep the cheese cache safe. Phew. So it's incredibly huge, a little cold, and a little dangerous. This is fine with me. I would gladly put on my warmest coat and skip through this grand hall of lunchtime glory, this Valhalla of heavily processed fluorescent "food," spraying Velveeta into my mouth and stuffing my pockets with delicious orange treasures.
