An Overturned Army Tank is a Treadmill For Olympic Athletes

They wanted to use an American tank, but weren't allowed—that's why the American team exhibiting at the Venice Biennale used an overturned British tank for their treadmill masterpiece, Track and Field, instead.

Selected by the US government to represent their country, artists Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla hired eight Olympic athletes to take turns jogging on the tank treadmill from now until November, when Venice Biennale shuts up for another year.

With four other installations at the Biennale, including an organ/ATM which plays music when money's withdrawn, it sounds as though Allora and Calzadilla are the stars of the show. [NPR]
