Al-Shamuhk is the online forum where officially-sanctioned Al-Qaeda propaganda disseminates. It's the only internet communication channel they say you can trust. And this week, someone hacked the forum and took it off line.

Experts tell IDG News that the incident was most likely due to attacks on the domain name and the data server, and that the two attacks were coordinated.

Evan Kohlmann reported earlier this week in a message on Twitter that hackers hijacked the primary web domain used by the Shamukh chat forum, which disseminates propaganda on behalf of al-Qaida. He later reported that the entire website was unavailable, and two more top-tier jihadi web forums had also been mysteriously knocked offline, including the Arabic-language Ansar al-Mujahideen Network.

Kohlmann says the attacks began 72 hours ago, and suspects that either a government-backed hacker or a cyber vigilante was involved. He also believes it's only a matter of time before official Al-Qaeda messaging pops up on a new forum. [PC World]
