A new hack by iOS app developer and Apple TV tinkerer Steve Troughton-Smith allows you to run iOS apps using a big screen on a jailbroken Apple TV.

While you can stream (or mirror) content from your Mac or iOS device with AirPlay using Apple TV, this hack is actually running the apps directly off the Apple TV. It's a nifty trick, and while iOS apps aren't exactly gorgeous on a big screen, some—Maps for example—have big potential. The only question is how exactly you're supposed to easily control iOS apps when you can't touch the screen. A remote control is a clunky substitute for iOS' smooth touchscreen interface.
