A Magnetic Metal Ball Is the Secret To This Designer Lamp's FlexibilityS

Move over Luxo. Giulio Iacchetti has designed an incredibly flexible table and floor lamp that would put Pixar's mascot to shame. And like anything awesome, the Magneto's capabilities come from the power of magnets.

In this case, a magnetic steel ball serves as an infinitely pivotable joint, connecting the LED light source—which looks not unlike a flashlight—to a rotating base at almost any angle.

A series of dimples on the base's vertical arm stop the ball from just rolling all the way down, while the power cable extends and retracts depending on how much slack is required. Both versions of the lamp will be available from Foscarini, with what I assume will be a matching high-end designer price tag. [Giulio Iacchetti via MoCo Loco]
