When Apple is getting a new mobile gadget ready, they stick it in an anechoic chamber—a humungous room straight out of science fiction, where the entire external world is blocked out. The same goes for advanced aircraft.
The USAF CV-22 Osprey seen here—which weighs at least 16 tons, depending on load out—is actually hanging from the ceiling of the hangar-sized room as it undergoes electronics scanning. That's one hell of a room. But given how often these birds crash and burn, they probably can't be tested too many times. [USAF]
