Soon You'll Be Able to Buy Stuff With Your TiVo Remote

Thanks to a new partnership between PayPal and Tivo, you could be ordering Girls Gone Wild DVDs Shamwows at the click of your TV remote as soon as this fall. There's just one glaring question, who asked for this?

The proposed system, as reported by Bloomberg, would enable TiVo Premiere owners to make political donations or buy products as they're being advertised to them with the click of a button. Comcast, apparently, is also in talks with PayPal. Its own offering may not be far behind.

Buying stuff on your TV sounds convenient in theory, but nowadays cable subscribers are dropping like flies and tablets and smartphones make internet shopping easier than ever. So who's doing to clicking? After all, isn't skipping commercials the whole point of Tivo? In what bizzaro world would a normal person want to sit through an optional commercial break for the opportunity to spend their hard-earned money on something they don't need? On second thought, maybe this isn't such a bad idea after all... [Bloomberg]
