Nikon's new 18-300mm super zoom DX lens is the perfect piece of kit for photographers trying to lighten their load by only bringing along a single lens for their DSLRs. It's great for artsy shots of flowers in bloom, or stalking your favorite celeb from afar.
The lens offers the highest zoom ratio you'll find in a DSLR lens—16.7 times from its widest 18mm setting to its 300mm long-range telephoto option. And while it's not the fastest zoom lens you can buy, its aperture range of f/3.5 to 4.5 is nothing to sneeze at. Like any zoom lens you'll probably want to stick with a tripod when shooting in full telephoto mode, but it includes Nikon's Vibration Reduction (VR) II image stabilization tech which lets you get away with shooting at shutter speeds about four stops faster. You'll just have to wait until the end of June before you can surrender $1,000 for the privilege of doing so. [Nikon via Fareastgizmos]
