We’re Hiring a Deal Master

We're hiring a tech writer— one with unmatched taste in gadgets, apps, design products, games, and bargains —to be our Deal Master. This is a brand new gig that merges writing and product curation into a new kind of content-driven commerce. If you're an equal fan of both Amazon Prime and Optimus Prime, we've got your gig!

What You'll Do

The Deal Master will be the organization's commerce fiend. If you aren't buying products all the time, you've got to want to be. You'll be obsessively researching, sourcing, and writing a daily feature that recommends the best technology buys on the web. You'll begin publishing and discussing your feature on Gizmodo. Responsibilities will include:

  • researching tech and product deals, knowing what's bullsh*t and what's actually worth buying
  • stalking deal forums, knowing what products and retailers will get reader traction
  • sourcing original offers from retailers with some partnership-building
  • reading Gizmodo's product review and design categories for inspiration
  • writing a daily deal roundup for the Gizmodo audience
  • leading discussion on products and deals in our reader discussion system (Kinja)
  • promoting your deal roundups on social media
  • tracking your feature's success in our analytics tools

If all goes well and you prove your deal mastery, you'll grow this gig to cover more tech sites, more publishing features, and more business functions.

Who You Are

  • stellar writer with online track record (1 to 3 years experience at a real publication or an insanely competent personal blog)
  • commerce wizard (loads of stacking discount codes and SlickDeals forums under your belt)
  • design fan (not a freak about form factor? here's the door...)
  • Internet native citizen (Gmail, Docs, Calendar, Twitter, apps, etc)
  • NYC denizen

Note
The Deal Master is a role in a new team that aligns closely with editorial but is housed on the business side. You'll be crafting a new type of commerce content that challenges the norm but knows its place. So should you. The gig reports to Gawker Media HQ in downtown NYC.
