Awesome 1900s Dudes in Awesome Suits Mounting Awesome Dinosaur

If you've ever visited New York City's American Museum of Natural History, you've seen this Apatosaurus. But did you know it took these dudes in suits (well one suit and three fantastic old-timey outfits) six years to mount the giant?

The project started in 1898, and by the time it was completed in 1905, they had re-christened what was first known as a Brontosaurus as an Apatosaurus. Back then there was no standard for setting up humongous dinosaur carcasses, so this herbivore was installed using recycled pipes and plumbing fixtures. Turns out the method worked, because despite revisions to other parts of the carcass, the torso of this sauropod is still supported using the same rig. [AMNH]
