Al-Jazeera Gets the Crap Hacked Out of It (Updated)

There are hacks, and then there are hacks. After this morning's apparent Apple UDID dump, Al-Jazeera's English website has been defaced in about the most conspicuous way possible. But who's responsible?

Al-Jazeera Gets the Crap Hacked Out of It (Updated)

Clearly someone with a bone to pick with Al-Jazeera. But who is this Al-Rashedon? An opponent of Al-Jazeera's coverage of Syrian civil war? The Syrian flag is clear in the top right. Is it just some Arabic lulz hooligan? If you read Arabic, we'd love to know more. Until then, we'll wait for Al-Jazeera to scramble and clean this up. [Al-Jazeera]

Update: Ding ding ding, Syria! A quick translation gives the following, roughly:

"We have hacked you because your lack of support of Syrian government and militant groups backed by that government. Al Jazeera has been spreading lies. We're compelled to do so on behalf of the Syrian people."

Update 2: Some readers are reporting the .net variant is showing up as defaced, rather than .com, while others can't get the site to load at all.

Update 3: A better translation from our reader Omar:

In response to your stand against Syria (Government and the People) And your support to terrorist groups in addition to spreading lies and made up news.. We have hacked your website and this is our retaliation..

Aljazeera dot net and dot com both appear down—probably mid-repair.
