Time Warner Paves the Way for Lamest Version of Apple TV's Future

If Apple TV is anything like the a la carte channels as apps dream we've hoped for, it could be amazing. But according to comments from Time Warner Cable president and COO Rob Marcus we might never be liberated from our cable providers.

Marcus said he's willing to give up control on the TWC user interface, which could mean that Apple is actually just cooking up a dumb cable box disguised in a well-designed package. It's really the first time we've gotten any kind of confirmation from a provider that they're working directly with Apple ( though it corroborates last month's WSJ report to that effect). For now it seems clearer that Apple is not working on a channels as apps service, but just a boring old set-top box. And that sucks. [Hollywood Reporter via TechCrunch via MacRumors]
