Vivre Sa Vie is not the most well known Jean-Luc Godard film. (That honor goes to Breathless. It is not the most challenging of his films either. (Try Pierrot Le Fou, 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her or Film Socialisme for that.) But for what it lacks in fame or complexity, it makes up for in substance and watchability. And it left us one hell of an Animated GIF.

Vivre Sa Vie: Thanks for the GIFsS

Today marks the 50 year anniversary of Vivre Sa Vie, documenting the story of a girl, played by Ana Karina, who gradually falls into prostitution to make a living, and the tribulations which take place along the way. The questioning of societal norms, our own existence and the struggle that follows—all themes of the French New Wave—are apparent here, making for a film many can relate to, even if they don't live amidst a backdrop of Parisian crime.
