Amazon Turns Boring Gift Cards Into Campy Personalized Videos

Gift cards are a cop-out that screams "I'm too lazy to think about this!" But if you're going to go that route, you might as well go with an Amazon gift card because, well, you can buy just about anything on Amazon. It's like handing someone cash. Besides, now that Amazon's teamed up with video greeting card service JIbJab, you can add a little personal spice to the blandest gift of all.

JibJab, for those of you who don't know, has a whole bunch of silly videos you can cast yourself in. Just upload your photo, rotate and crop your face into the JibJab template, and it'll generate a video of you shredding metal riffs. Happy birthday, your friend is a dork!

Amazon simply ported this functionality to its site so that you can attach a video greeting to a gift to be delivered to your friend or family member via email or Facebook. In addition to creating a JibJab video of you rocking out (or whatever), you've also got the option of uploading a photo to put on the card—as I've done in the image below of me smoking a half-dozen electronic cigarettes at the same time. You can also suggest a gift, and Amazon will emblazon a picture of it on the card.

After you've finished customizing your awesome video gift card with your mug, selected the amount of the gift, and a personalized message, simply punch in the name of the person you'd like to send it to and schedule the delivery. For all you forgetful kids, you can schedule the delivery up to a year in advance, so when you're done with the holiday shopping just go ahead and set up delivery for your mom's birthday now. [Amazon]
